Miami, FL – October 27, 2025 — Florida Lemark Corporation proudly joined Miami-
Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) and School Board Member Mary Blanco, District
7, to celebrate the official ribbon cutting of the new Herbert A. Ammons Middle School
campus in South Miami-Dade. The ceremony marked a major milestone in the school’s journey toward providing an innovative, world-class learning environment for its
students and community.
The new 59,225-square-foot, $29 million, energy-efficient facility replaces 16 temporary
portables that have served the school since its founding in 2003. Designed by
Zyscovich Architects and constructed by Florida Lemark Corporation, the three-story
campus will provide 1,337 permanent student stations and feature modern academic
spaces including general purpose, science, and ESE classrooms, as well as dedicated
art and music rooms, a media center, and a dining/multipurpose area with a full-
production kitchen.
“This new facility was designed to foster innovation, collaboration, and academic
excellence,” said School Board Member Mary Blanco. “As an International
Baccalaureate Magnet School, Ammons Middle continues to set the standard for
innovative education, preparing students to become the next generation of global
leaders.”
Herbert A. Ammons Middle School has a long tradition of excellence — earning an “A”
rating for 25 consecutive years, twice receiving the National Blue Ribbon School
designation, and being recognized for more than 15 years by Magnet Schools of
America as a Merit School of Excellence or Distinction. The school has also been
named one of the top middle schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by Superintendent Jose L. Dotres, South
Region Superintendent Rafael Villalobos, and Chief of Facilities Raul Perez, along with
Principal Maria Costa, Assistant Principals Maria Masso and Rodney Wright, and
members of the Ammons family.
“Florida Lemark is honored to partner with Miami-Dade County Public Schools on this
transformative project,” said Emilio Rodriguez, President of Florida Lemark Corporation.
“Our team takes great pride in building learning environments that inspire innovation
and empower the next generation.”
The new Herbert A. Ammons Middle School campus stands as a testament to the
power of collaboration between educators, community leaders, and the construction
industry — ensuring that Miami-Dade’s students have access to the facilities they need
to thrive in an ever-changing world.
